Giving time to thought.

Something I’ve been thinking about recently is how I’ve stopped taking time to pause and think. As I stay up later and later I find that I no longer lie in bed pondering my day, thinking about solutions to problems and what I want to achieve but instead fall straight asleep.

When I wake up I quickly jump in the shower to get on with my day.

I no longer sit and think on the train (now Muni) but now listen to podcasts while I partake in the 21st century equivalent of twiddling my thumbs by playing a mobile game. Even If I’m resting somewhere I’ll probably be listening to music.

I hope my new habit will be to put my headphones away when moving around the world and taking time to stop and think. I used to solve a lot of problems in these segments of the day.

A positive change for me has been that I spend an increasing amount of time in discussion with others but I still think self-reflection is very important.

This is why I like that in my favourite tea place in San Francisco Samovar Tea Lounge, they don’t have WiFi and encourage pausing in your day and spending some time there (I find my own discussions go deeper).

There’s nothing more enjoyable than being in the moment. If you don’t need to be on your phone then put it away. There was a time in my life when I found it important to share (checkin, twitter, picture) every important moment I experienced.

Although this still resonates with me to an extent, I try to share the cliffs notes these days rather than the bibliographical account.

After the Music Library

I’ve been thinking recently about how ridiculous the idea of a music library is in the streaming age. Especially considering that the majority of music that is consumed today is disposable and has a short life-cycle, will anyone be... Continue →
